Happy Halloween!

No, I haven't given up cleaning (yet). We're getting ready for Halloween over here.

The pumpkin soup didn't work out, but we'll be rocking this cake tomorrow (totally got the idea from Country Living, although I'll just be using regular cakemix):

I missed my chance to participate this year, but you can check out more ideas at My Friend Amy's Fall Recipe Challenge from earlier this month.

Have a good weekend whatever (if anything) you're celebrating!

Teaser Tuesday - Across the Endless River

Teaser Tuesdays are hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading.

It asks us to:
(1) Grab our current reads.

(2) Let the book fall open to a random page.

(3) Share two (or three) teaser sentences from that page somewhere between lines 7 and 12 (avoiding spoilers).
We're also supposed to share the book title and author so others can find the book themselves.

Here's my teaser for today from Across the Endless River, by Thad Carhart:
I have two paths also, [Sacagawea] thought. I am Shoshone and not-Shoshone, Mandan and not-Mandan. And I travel with a voyageur. This is my life.

Happy to Have Our Prairie Dog Home

We got home from our family road trip early Tuesday morning. Once we got some sleep, my next priority was to get our prairie dog, Hoover, home from his sitter.

Hoover spent the last 2 weeks with friends of ours who live around the corner. We left him with his cage, ball, and other supplies. Sounds like he was much more comfortable this time (we'd asked this family to sit for us once before) because he was able to roam around in his ball. In fact, he was even willing to hop back into his ball on the one occasion that he escaped from his cage. (I think he also enjoyed freaking out the family's chihuahuas from the comfort and safety of his ball.)

We're glad he had a good "vacation", but are very happy to have our prairie dog home!

Teaser Tuesday - Moonstone by Marilee Brothers

Teaser Tuesdays are hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading.

It asks us to:
(1) Grab our current reads.

(2) Let the book fall open to a random page.

(3) Share two (or three) teaser sentences from that page somewhere between lines 7 and 12 (avoiding spoilers).
We're also supposed to share the book title and author so others can find the book themselves.

Here's my teaser for today from Moonstone, by Marilee Brothers:
"Tell me about the moonstone. I could hear people's thoughts. Did it work that way for you?"

Trilby's eyes flew open. Her smile disappeared. "It ruined my life, that's all. Why do you think I'm here?"

Angry Prairie Dog

The indignities this little guy is put through! I tell you, it's amazing he survives. First he's washed with baby shampoo, then towel-dried, then sprayed with flea spray. It takes him minutes to dry off after that kind of treatment, people... minutes! Until then, his wet fur sticks on end and he's miserable.

Feel free to express your sympathy and outrage on his behalf below. I'll just keep getting the stink eye here.

This video was shared by one of my friends. It's not my prairie dog, but thought you would enjoy!

Teaser Tuesday - Soul Catcher

Teaser Tuesdays are hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading.

It asks us to:
(1) Grab our current reads.

Here's my teaser for today from Soul Catcher, by Leigh Bridger:
"I hadn't really seen Doris Harken and Sarah in the same patch of sunlight. The world could not get any stranger than it already was. I couldn't handle that.

There, there, the quilt birds sang. It's all relative."

Here are some more of the books I've taken with me on our current cross-country roadtrip.

Soul Catcher and Primitive

Soul Catcher, by Leigh Bridger, and Primitive, by Mark Nykanen, are two of the books I've taken with me on our road trip / family vacation. I received the ARCs from Belle Bridge Books and the scheduled publication date is today.

Happy October 1 to these authors. I'm looking forward to getting to know their work!
